WHITE SANDS/LAS CRUCES, NM
From Benson, AZ we took I-10 to Wilcox, then down to Lordsburg and Deming to Las Cruces.   We kind of wonder about the elevation since we start traveling we have gone from sea level to 9,000 ft and back to about 3,890 here at Las Cruces,  but I know we have never gone down hill...That poor Navigator has really worked hard.  At Las Cruces we stayed at Coachlight RV Park.  The Park is very nice and part of a Motel with a swimming pool and small water fountain. It's clean and well organized.  It's been warm and humid like it's going to rain since we arrived.  We put the awning up to keep the sun out from the front door and sat down to rest.  We heard the wind blowing real hard and got up to go out and take the awning down.  Suddenly we heard a loud noise and we knew the awning had blown away.  What an adventure of retirement and spending money.  We had to spend an extra day to have the awning repaired.  Oh well...

In the distance are the gypsum dunes of the White Sands National Monument.  This is just a small portion.  This area is VERY white.  It can be seen from outer space.
It's hard to take picture of White Sands if you don't have any contrast.

It is hard to see the pure white gypsum in the picture.  It does not show well during mid-day.  It is better to visit early in the morning or late in the afternoon for more contrast.  There is a moon show when there is a full moon which is supposed to be really neat.  No full moon when we were there...
This wood bridge was built by students to study plant and wild life in the White Sands National Monument.
