CAVERNS OF SONORA - SONORA, TX
We cut down one day at Carlsbad because of the awning episode.  We took Hwy 285 to Fort Stockton then I-10 to Ozona, stopped and refueled then continued on to Sonora TX.  The Caverns of Sonora had places for camping and RVs with power and water only.  So we decided to stay only overnight because we did not drain the tanks for three days before.   The road is not in good condition climbing up to the caverns.

Caverns of Sonora as they advertise is the cavern that doesn't have a name yet.  It's privately owned and operated.  Most tour guides are teenagers and the caverns are run by  young adults.  They do the best they can but some of the areas leave a bit to be desired.  The restrooms are not the cleanest and the equipment dosen't work as well as it should.  Overall though the kids do a pretty good job.  Especially on the tours.  These caverns are only 150 feet deep, but are fun because you are very close (sometimes inches) to the formations.
As we travel down in the cavern which is not steep the temperature was cooler and more comfortable than outside although they say it is high in carbon dioxide.  The place is very crowded with all kinds of formations.  Even the walk way is very narrow.  We try not to touch anything, even the walls because we had  the words implanted in our brain from Kartchner Caverns that we can give some bacteria to the formations.

There are a lot of separate small areas of formations.  Some formations are on top of other formations.
Walking through these formations is exciting.
